Organic electronics

Imec aspires to develop new and improved technologies that increase the performance and lower the cost of organic electronic components. Organic semiconductors have a lower mobility than their inorganic counterparts. But they are more flexible, lighter, and cheaper. They will play an important role in memories, smart clothing, radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags, chemical sensors, solar cells and displays. The areas of research are:

  • Organic components (RFID tags, OLEDs, solar cells)
  • Electronics on foil (thin-film electronics)
  • Organic memories
  • Organic solar cells
