Brussels, 19-20 October 2006 - The Information Security Seminar 2006
Systems security & privacy
This two-day conference aims to bring together the better of two worlds in Information Security; Technology and Business. Both aspects are inseparably connected when it comes to building trustworthy and secure environments. Therefore IMEC and L-SEC are organizing this event jointly, by bringing you presentations by world-renowned security experts in technology and business. The program of the first day addresses visionary aspects and is initiated and supervised by IMEC's Center of Advanced Learning in Information Technology (CALIT).
Information technology is becoming increasingly pervasive and our society is more and more dependent on technology; this implies that higher standards need to be set for security and robustness of IT solutions. We need to evolve from an ad hoc approach (fix and patch) to security by design that is deployed in an integrated fashion with new technologies. In understanding on how to avoid security failures, we need to focus more on a system-based approach and on economical aspects of the problem. This requires a deep understanding of new security technologies and of secure implementations. A second major challenge is the protection of privacy; the "natural" evolution of technology brings us towards a collection of ever larger data sets that are mined for detailed profiles. This brings a strong erosion of privacy; a major effort is required to develop solutions that counteract this development, that risks to bring conflicts with the values in our society.
It is L-SEC and IMEC's intention to bring together and to build an exchange platform where managers, policy-makers, scientists and practicing engineers share can information. We welcome Academic and Business security specialists, information security consultants, chief information officers, security directors & managers, security vendors and business developers active in most important sectors; government, Finance and insurance, industry, healthcare, media and communications and research centers.
