Nano Meets Darwin: Probing Evolution Dynamics using Nanofabrication Techniques
Abstract
My recent efforts in adaptation and evolution have come from my work using micro- and nanofabrication to study biological molecules and organisms. I have used microfabrication techniques to create environments which can be viewed as “synthetic worlds” which can be used to probe how organisms respond to stress and each other in a quantitative manner using designed fitness landscapes. I will discuss how this marrying of nanotechnology and evolutionary biology can attack some of the fundamental problems in evolutionary biology.
