At the IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference in Honolulu (Hawai, US), imec’s Claudio Girotto has won the Best Presentation Award in Organic Photovoltaics.

The subject of the winning presentation was “Efficient Polymer Solar Cells via an All-Spray-Coated Deposition”. The presentation showed imec's latest results with optimizing spray coating to fabricate organic solar cells with the same efficiency as spin coated cells, above 3.7%.

By developing two-solvent systems for each of the materials to be deposited, imec has made smooth and uniform polymer thin films with excellent optical and electronic properties via a large-area, roll-to-roll compatible technology that could replace spin coating and enable the inexpensive production of organic solar cells.
