SDR front-ends need high-accuracy high-speed analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) with low power consumption. Imec looks to advance the current state-of-the-art in ADCs for wireless applications, taking care that its solutions can be further scaled. For its ADC research, imec is looking at novel architectures that improve the power efficiency, sampling speed, and resolution. Candidates are low-power successive approximation ADC, low-power high-speed flash ADC, and low-power medium-speed/resolution ADC.
