Scaling-driven nanoelectronics
Tomorrow’s smart systems will require extreme compute and storage capabilities, orders of magnitude above what the processors and memories of today can deliver. Thus there is a need to keep on scaling.
But because we are closing in on the physical limits of IC scaling, we have to push the technology to its extreme. That’s why imec is looking into the innovative use of new materials, transistor architectures and lithography techniques.
Imec’s programs are geared towards solving the remaining challenges and gaps for volume manufacturing of the next technology node. Further out, we work on scaling CMOS technology to the (sub-)22 nanometer node. We focus on logic and memory, interconnect challenges and using the 3rd dimension.
