Wireless autonomous transducer solutions

The R&D for the Wireless Autonomous Transducer Solutions program (WATS) is carried out by imec's sister company imec The Netherlands at Holst Centre.

In the not so distant future, say beyond 2010, researchers envision ambient, intelligent electronics. These will consist of embedded, unobtrusive devices that will allow people to carry out activities, tasks, and rituals in an unhampered, natural way. The applications will be responsive, personalized, and embedded in the user's environment to be almost unnoticeable.

Imec aspires to develop generic microelectronic solutions for this intelligent environment. This includes solutions to improve human comfort and health, for example through health and wellness monitoring. Other applications will monitor homes, workplaces, and industrial processes.
